Visit preparation

  • Book appointment via phone or email

  • Book multiple appointments on the same day for a discount

  • Arrange for the patient to arrive one hour prior to the scheduled ultrasound

  • Email a copy of the patient's history and blood results for review prior to ultrasound

  • Allow 30 - 60 minutes for abdominal ultrasound, longer for additional procedures such as FNA +/or centests

Patient preparation 

Correct patient preparation for ultrasound scanning is vital for optimum image acquisition.​ Ideally place and intravenous catheter for administration of sedation, obtain permission for sedation with owner prior to ultrasound. Clip the patient in preparation for ultrasound:

​​

  • Cranial – extend to xiphoid process (pink arrow) and follow the costal arch (green arrow heads) dorsolaterally on left and right abdominal wall.

  • Caudal – extend to pubic symphysis​

  • Dorsal and lateral – extend to the sub lumbar muscles (yellow arrow heads), following the costal arch
