Email a copy of the patient's history and blood results for review prior to ultrasound

Allow 30 - 60 minutes for abdominal ultrasound, longer for additional procedures such as FNA +/or centests
Patient preparation
Correct patient preparation for ultrasound scanning is vital for optimum image acquisition. Ideally place and intravenous catheter for administration of sedation, obtain permission for sedation with owner prior to ultrasound. Clip the patient in preparation for ultrasound:

Cranial – extend to xiphoid process (pink arrow) and follow the costal arch (green arrow heads) dorsolaterally on left and right abdominal wall.

Caudal – extend to pubic symphysis

Dorsal and lateral – extend to the sub lumbar muscles (yellow arrow heads), following the costal arch
